on saturday, jessica and i decided to watched a movie. i picked her up on the way home from the surprise party we had for my mother's fiftieth birthday. how precious. en route to my apartment, it seems that the muffler decided to disconnect itself from itself, causing my car to be lifted by the larger piece of the muffler. i have never laughed so hard in my life. nor have i ever been more confused.

the 'palooz was lame city as usual but i some pretty killer bands.

friday's highlights:
the rapture: never seen them before. they put on a good show, but their music is still just sort of there overall.
daft punk: best performance i've ever seen by anyone ever. ever.

afterwards rob and i decided to go to pilsen to eat tamales. what a disaster that was. first off, we got on the train to find that the 54/cermak line wasn't running. great! then we were walking to catch the ashland bus, as it flew by, we started sprinting, but never caught up. we were pretty much speachless. finally we caught a cab, and made it in time to have a lovely dinner. matt from matt and kim and some guy from some other band who i recognized were at the table behind us. after we ate, we headed for the ashland bus to head back to my place. the last bus hits that stop at 12:15am, we got there at 12:16am. we were livid. in true cta fashion the bus arrived promptly at 12:20am! success! after that we went to a super lame bar with leah and her gaggle. i got a pretty killer picture of a dying alcoholic wearing a sombrero. life is ok.

saturday's highlights:
matt and kim: they were good as always, despite some technical issues
i'm from barcelona: this was cute for about 10 minutes, before it got really old
tapes 'n tapes: they were really great. much more entertaining than on record
silverchair: i watched one song, it was "offensive at best"
sam roberts band: pretty much awesome
cold war kids: should've been on a big stage, the crowd was awful. they were better than i expected.

sunday's highlights:
david vandervelde: they were fantastic. the new guitarist is so rock n' roll it almost hurts.
amy winehouse: she was surprisingly really good. her band was excellent, and it seems that she can actually sing. one of the members in her band had his foot in a cast and it was quite entertaining to watch him walk up the steps to get on stage. also, i saw a vagina backstage. pretty gross.
peter bjorn and john: awesome. pete had said that he heard (and i'm not sure if this is a cliche comparison for them) that they sound like the who live. i think that's pretty accurate. it's way more in your face than on record. despite some delays due to technical problems, it was an awesome set. definitely a favorite for the weekend.
modest mouse: they were good. i don't know what else to say. i liked that they played "tiny cities made of ashes" because i love that song.
cafe tacuba: apart from daft punk, i think i enjoyed watching them more than anyone else this weekend. they had awesome energy, and the crowd was really into it. yeah, yeah...

two of the three nights i found mikey curled up in a ball, passed out on the couch surrounded by empty beer bottles. i was impressed.
