The fallout from Nathan Williams' onstage meltdown during Wavves' set at Barcelona's Primavera Sound Festival continues. First, he apologized on his blog, then deleted his apology, and finally, cancelled his European tour. And now, mustachioed Black Lips singer/bassist Jared Swilley, a man responsible for more than his share of onstage chaos and wreckage, has publicly blasted Williams, saying that he should quit music. If there's one thing the Black Lips can't stand, it's unprofessionalism.

In an interview with the national Norwegian radio station NRK, Swilley, who also performed at Primavera, offered his own take on the Wavves breakdown. Some choice quotes:

* "A friend of mine gave him MDMA (ecstasy), and he just couldn't take it."
* "It wasn't so much of a breakdown as it was him being a baby. And that's why I don't like him. I've heard stories from others that he's like a real dick. And just like a baby, thought he was really cool. But then when it came down to it, when the pressure came on he just couldn't take the heat. Some people can't do this.
* "That's cowardly to me. If you're gonna do this, you put your all into it. Otherwise, just stay at home. He's like a little puppy."
* "There's so many people that would wanna be doing that: being able to get flown over to Europe, and have people like your records and buying them. And then just blow it on your first show in Europe-- someone like that needs to not do this. He needs to go back to school or move back in with his parents and sit down and think about things. He shouldn't play music. He shouldn't tour."

It should be noted that Swilley is not exactly the first artist to talk shit about Nathan Williams. In an interview with the Washington Post back in March, Psychedelic Horseshit's Matt Whitehurst had this to say about Wavves: "We should have named ourselves Wavves. We'd be rich now if we would've. We're better than Wavves, he does the same kind of [expletive]." (There's a whole lot more in that interview, and pretty much all of it is hilarious.)

Both Wavves and Black Lips will play on Saturday, July 18 at our own Pitchfork Music Festival, which goes down in Chicago's Union Park. Feel the drama!

1. she said she wanted to hang out. we went to golden apple and talked about life. she said "i don't want to go home." so we went to a bar in my neighborhood (where i grew up) and drank one beer. then drove out to see r. kelly's house which is near my grandparents old house. it was my first time seeing there house since they moved, almost 10 years ago. then we went to the park, and hung out on the swings. it was very cold out. we drove back towards the city and stopped at this mexican place in bridgeport. we decided to build a bed fort at my house, but never did. we just sat up all night watching movies and talking.
2. jon alvin's kitchen table with jon, dan and rob. we sat and talked for nine hours straight.
3. sitting outside of my apartment in Pilsen with my Mike, Renda, and Lindsay. Listening to music, drinking beers, talking. It was nice. Mike and I went in to use the bathroom and he said "i'm so happy, it's so nice to be able to do this. we are so lucky." and he hugged me. it was very mushy, but true.
4. hanging out outside of the dairy queen in Montreal with Hugues and Steph, two of my favorite people in the world.
5. eating chinese food, swinging on the swings at the park in Bridgeport, and then going to my apt and taking stupid photobooth pictures for about two hours with Jessica

Running into people from the past wasn't as obnoxious as it could have been, so that was good. I am just entertained at seeing how people interact with each other after years apart. I find it funny when people need to really reach to say "hello" as if it is complicated and difficult; it is not. My method is to just say nothing. You don't care, I don't care. Fine. It's something that I just can't relate to whatsoever. It was funny running into one person in particular. I hadn't seen her in seven years, and it was fairly hilarious. She is a bit of a weirdo, not necessarily in a bad way...though that is debatable. We talked about memories from a trip that we took, about the group we were with; our individual take on what went on. I hadn't thought about those memories in a long time. I hadn't seen a lot of the people that were at the bar in several years, and my beard and glasses proved to serve as a good camouflage to avoid potentially painful run-ins. I prefer it that way. South side...

Thanksgiving was nice. Different, but nice. I spent most of the time with my Dad and my cousin Danny in the basement watching football games that I didn't particularly care about. Afterwards I went to Lindsay's parents' house, which was nice. I was a bit too tired to fully enjoy myself, as it was loud, and I couldn't really focus on anything but my brain telling me to go to bed. Once the music and the crowd died down, it got better. Sitting at the table, chatting with Steve KORN, Lindsay and her parents was nice. I drank too much tea though. I mostly enjoy the traditions of the holidays; those that already exist, and those that will come. Lyf3.

Mike and I spent the bulk of the day reliving the past in various ways. He came to my house this afternoon and we headed over to Bialy's for coffee. We had good discussions, and it's always funny to spend time there. From there we moved over to the Plaza, a place that we spent a good deal of our childhood at. Circuit City, The Lark, Musicland, and various other stupid places that no longer exist. It's funny to wander that mall, as basically nothing is the same as it was ten years ago. Almost every store is different, and it's only about sixty percent occupied. It's strange. We were called pirates by some hip hop lovers. Cute. After returning to my house, we decided that it would be best to press on with the nostalgia, and headed out towards Indiana to go to Meijer and El Amigo. On the ride, we brought up memories of the characters that we encountered at Round The Clock and through lame shows out south. There were so many people that I forgotten about. It seems so long ago. Alan met us at Meijer, and it made me think of the many times that we spent there at 3 am drinking coffee and wandering that ridiculous place. We were so lame. I am happy with the lameness. Spending time like that may have been dull, but there was a certain innocence that a lot of people miss out on at that age.

I'm constantly amazed by people's ability to contradict themselves. I don't understand how people can be so dishonest with themselves, and on such a superficial level, at that.

I just got off the phone with a friend who is having a pretty rough time. We had a good conversation that reminded me of a similar point in my life. It's weird to think about that time now. The stress of school is long removed from my world. I wanted to leave Chicago so bad, and I wasn't quite sure what to do about it, which continue to add to my stress level.It all culminated with some tears shed during a snowfall outside of Keegans. Such a relief. I didn't leave as I had wanted to, but if I left I most likely would have never met Lindsay (not to be gushy-gushy lame). After visiting Montreal last winter, I was right back to that point. It's strange to feel like you don't belong in your own home, like you can't relate to your own friends. Thinking about it now, I can't relate to me at that time. It's funny how things change. Earlier this evening, Mia and I were talking about life and love. Thinking about that time when Lindsay and I met is funny now, but at the time it was so stressful. A lot of things were said and assumed about me, that were not at all true, which was frustrating. I had never had to deal with anything like it before. It's amazing to me how petty people can be, and how ignorant. That stress is so far behind me now, and while my desire to leave here is still alive and well, I'm far more content than ever before (aaawww barf).

I want my "achy breaky heart" ringtone. I wish that I could fall asleep, or at least I wish that I had someone to play Scrabble with. I listened to a lot of John Coltraine and Howlin' Wolf, which has inspired me to go blow some money at Reckless tomorrow. I read a pretty good interview with Ron Carter, the jazz bassist, which was inspiring on some level but also sort of turned me off on him. He's an incredible player, but he seems to have a pretty massive ego. Maybe he deserves it.

I miss Jessica. I don't want to have to go to Detroit just to see her. They do have Tim Horton's there...

I am looking forward to the upcoming holidays. I have decided to turn Thanksgiving into an epic five day weekend. I'm looking forward to spending the Friday afterwards playing one hour of football and twelve hours of Keegans. Maybe I will stay sober and observe the downfall of my friends. I doubt it. Last year, I was the first person to leave, and I left at around 11:30pm. We had arrive at 1:30pm. Woof.

Pete is moving back to Beverly this week. This time we plan on getting new age and doing Pilates and yoga, and drinking lots of tea, riding our bikes, and getting "deep." I spend about 40% of my time out there with little to nothing to do. Should be nice.

Staying downtown has been pretty alright thus far. I finally figured out how to operate the dvd player, so I watched Rudy. That movie is heartwarming. It has it all. I really want to watch Ken Burns' The War but I don't know if I'll have the time. First world problems.

My mom is cooking chili on Friday, which means that I'm going home.

I want a dog. Hercules got adopted. Bummer.

I'm keeping an eye on my aunt Reenie and uncle Steve's cats/apartment for the week. It's a nice place situated in an area that I'd prefer to never see again, though I think that it'll be nice to be a bit of a tourist in my own city. If I didn't seem to have foreign visitors with some frequency, I would probably never experience any of that awful crap that this dump I call home has to offer. It's kinda nice. Most of all, I'm hoping for a nice thunderstorm to enjoy from the fourteenth floor.

Amylee's wedding was very nice. I had a lot of fun. Only one incident that almost led to a fight which seems pretty reasonable in my mind. She enjoyed my gift. Also, this marked the first time that I had taken the Skyway in several years- I forgot about how much more enjoyable the scenery is there, as opposed to taking 80. I love the sign for the Skyway, too.

Yesterday was so windy. Airheads is a great movie. Bye.

1. bruce springstein at the united center. my first cd was "born in the usa." it's a solid album, but i was never a HUGE fan of the boss. my uncle called me and asked me if i wanted to go with him the night before. i agreed to do it. BEST SHOW EVER! that guy is incredible. he just goes on and on. he's old. they're all old. you'd never know. i've never seen anyone else come close to that level of showmanship.
2. dmx, redman, method man, and jay z at rosemont horizon. it was on easter sunday, when i was 13 years old. it was my first real show. i was obsessed with wu tang, redman, and jay-z at the time, so it was HUGE. alone, just me and my friends. IT WAS VERY URBAN. the show was so good. even dmx was enjoyable. during red and meth's set, they were up on ropes doing the song "how high" and redman's broke, and he came crashing down. he said "don't worry, i'm high as hell." beautiful.
3. rage against the machine, beastie boys, run dmc at alpine valley. it was the the tibetan freedom concert. i was 13. i was obsessed with the beastie boys. i wore a beasties shirt to the show- SO LAME! rage blew my mind. seeing run dmc was cool. going out of state with my friends for the first time. eating taco bell at midnight in wisconsin. PRICELESS!
4. animal collective at ida noyes hall. i have been in love with this band since the moment i heard them. and when they were first coming up, they always played EB, which was 21+, meaning that i could never get in. SAD. i caught word that they were going to be playing at u of c, from my friend who did booking there. i went. stood right in front of the stage. sooooo goooooood.
5. the weakdaze and duct tape mustache at some vfw hall. two bands you have never heard of, because they are a bunch of my loser friends from high school. the significance was just that there were tons of people, most of which i knew. people were getting rowdy for no real reason. it was nice. a 60s garage rock band and some weirdo circus metal band together. that can only happen in high school. the music is forgettable, but the memories last a life time...................

i can't believe that i'm going to suffer through another of these presidential debates. i don't know why i watch them. there is really no point. nothing is going to change my vote at this point in time, and all they do is get me fired up and, in turn, probably shave several years of my life. life.

i'm getting increasingly more and more annoyed by people and politics. by that i mean that i'm getting sick of hearing people talk about national politics and this particular campaign that have never expressed any remote interest in what is happening around them prior to this past month. i understand the excitement that is sweeping our country, regarding this, and i understand that times are tough, but come on...they've been tough for awhile. nobody i know, including myself, has altered the way that they live in this time. national politics only mean so much. what about paying attention to the local government? the one which effects you most directly. it's just republican and democrat everytime with most people. we find the media sources that adhere to our beliefs, and we run with it...that's the only truth. it's frustrating.

speaking of stressful and things that get me fired up, i went to the sox game yesterday, and watched them play pathetically. it's impressive that they made it this far, as they definitely shouldn't have. out of all the games that i went to this year, this was the only one that they lost. hawks season is coming up..............
